Google processes more than 40,000 queries per second, or 3.5 billion searches per day. Each search returns millions of answers, some not even remotely close to what you’re looking for. (And before you know it … there goes an hour of your time.)

On Google and in life, asking the right questions is often the most direct path to the answers we need. But finding the right questions can be, in itself, a journey.

What Kind of Questions Do You Ask?

We can ask, “How do I do X?” (with X being a thing you already know exists). Now, it’s good to envision the desired outcome. But this approach can restrict your search to your existing knowledge of the questions and answers. It will often deliver a narrower scope of results.

The most exciting inventions, discoveries and endeavors often start with “What if there was a way to do Y? (with Y being a new outcome you’ve never heard of, only imagined).

If you want to go that route, start with your pain points. Unresolved pain has a way of forcing us off the beaten path to explore new solutions we didn’t know existed. To question the status quo. To seek out the visionaries who are trying to solve for Y (new), not just settling for X (old).
